Just For Today . . .Hope of Spring . . 3/24/09

Dear Holy Friends,
This week I am struggling through some hard things said about me. It comes as a response to the column in the paper this past Sunday. Some people with very strong opinions have slandered me saying I should be fired, and accused me of not being the huge dog lover that I am. I pray this doesn't affect my business. This morning, as I stood outside in the cold playing fetch with my dogs I thought about the crocus blooming through the frost and wanted to be that hopeful.

In His Grip, Chandra

The hope of Spring

fresh frost on the ground
sparkling in the sun
snowbirds hopping around
squirrels on the run
clear blue of the sky
winter holding tight
yet migrating birds fly
days longer, shorter nights
breaking through the snow
crocus flowers bloom
daffodils start to grow
spring making its own room
creation follows God's design
despite reluctance to change
nature heeds the Master's time
as seasons rearrange
life can be hard on us
troubles hold on tight
like nature we should trust
God knows what is right
so if you face something rough
don't think you can get through
give God the difficult stuff
He'll rearrange it for you

Just For Today . . .I Love You The Same . . .3/23/09

Dear Holy Friends,
I love the way spring brings something new each day. Yesterday I saw the Canada goose is now nesting. This morning I saw more of my crocuses in bloom. The grass is a little more green today than it was yesterday. It is impossible to see nature and not see God. However, satan is so quick to chop us down and beat us up. I think one of his best tools is discouragement. And he surely knows to attack us by showing us how to compare ourselves to others, both good and bad. I firmly believe God has an answer to that.

In His Grip, Chandra

I LOVE YOU THE SAME

Mother Theresa a godly woman
all people knew her name.
Billy Graham, a mighty man of God,
and God says "I love you the same. '
What about Charles Stanley, Chuck Swindoll,
Luis Palau and evangelists of great fame?
How could He look at me after seeing them?
but God says, " I love you the same."
What about rapists, addicts, and thieves,
who break rules like it is a game?
Surely I am better than they are,
God says, "I love you the same."
Wait a minute God, how can this be?
That sinner has no shame.
while I try hard to be good,
God says, "I love you the same."
Friends, the love of God knows no bounds,
whether you are good, bad, healthy or lame.
We should comfort in the grace we find
when God says, "I love you the same."

Just For today . . .I Love You Enough . . .3/19/09

 Dear Holy Friends,
Yesterday we looked at the coming of spring and nature and how God tells us He loves us more than all that we see outside. Today,  no matter what may be going in in your life, I think God would want you to know that He loves you enough.

In His Grip, Chandra

I LOVE YOU ENOUGH

The road is long, trials great,
and many times life is tough.
We look with despair for help.
God says, "My love is enough."

Financial ruin, terminal illness,
abused children, marriages that are rough.
Where do we turn to get through?
God says, " My help is enough."

Broken hearts, wounded souls,
angry voices, difficult stuff.
Will forgiveness and healing come in?
God says, " My grace is enough."

The world is hard, we try to get by,
so many days that are tough.
We drop to our knees, look to God
comforted when He says, " I love you enough."

Just For Today . . . I Love You More . . .3/19/09

Dear Holy friends,
Last night I stood in the cold air, but also felt the warmth of spring breaking through the cold. The peepers out at the pond were chirping too. This morning a cardinal snag a lovely song from the crab apple tree that has blossoms beginning to grow. Goodness, all of nature testifies to our Creator and so many miss it. I believe the greatest testimony we see in nature comes when we stand in awe of it and realize that God loves us even more than that.

In His Grip, Chandra

" I LOVE YOU MORE "

Marvel at the squirrel in the snow,

listen to the purr of a cat,

see His hand as a small crocus grows,

God says, "I love you more than that."

Look at the star shining in the sky,

see sunlight sparkle on the dew,

watch the grace of a butterfly,

God says, "More is my love for you."

Listen to children at play,

      watch horses running free,

feel the sun on a summer day,

God says, "I love you like that can't you see?"

Every where you look today,

you will find His love outpoured,

and each time you see it,

He says, "My child I love you more."

Just For Today . . . Master Says . . .3/17/09

Dear Holy Friends,
Each day there is one more little sign of spring. And some of the signs are very little, but they are there. One morning recently I went outside and heard the blue jays. They are back. The cardinals stay all winter, but there are more of them now. Plus, each morning I hear a few more of my songbirds. Spring is coming. Nature listens to the master. I wonder if there is something he is trying to tell me today?

In His Grip, Chandra

The Master Says

Beneath layers of snow
ground warming the bulbs
 . . . the Master says "grow."

Gray clouds in the sky
is cold but birds hear
 . . . the Master say "fly."

Barren branches on trees
while dormant and cold
 . . . the Master says "leaf."

The things we see
not always all there is
. . .the Master says "trust me."

So, if winter is long
Spring not close
. . .the Master says "be strong."

Seek His grace and will
 despite the storms
. . .the Master says "Peace, be still."

a book review

The Kiss

By: Ted Dekker and Erin Healy

The Power of a Kiss is giving an entirely different meaning within the pages of this novel. Ted Dekker and Erin Healy do not disappoint in their first collaborative effort.  They created a vivid character in Shauna McAllister. The reader can't help but be drawn into her story of trauma induced amnesia and wonder if there is more to the situation than she is told. As the plot twists from one intrigue to another and the reader's suspicion switches between characters you will feel a kinship with Shawna's loneliness of not knowing the truth. The story has a most intriguing plot that is frightening in how believable it is. While the book may start a little slow, it picks up rapidly and soon you will find it hard to put down. This is the first ted Dekker book I have read. I'm a fan now.

Just For Today . . . Only A Drop . . . 3/7/09

Dear Holy Friends,
Some days we feel insignificant and alone. But God wants each of us to know we are His creation, His children, His perfect plan. Think of a rainbow and realize that it is made up of single droplets of water. And, each one is needed.

In His Grip, Chandra

Only A Drop

One droplet of water
a tiny little thing
seems insignificant
what good could it bring?
The vastness of the sky
is filled with them
yet only certain ones
are chosen by Him.
The sunlight is diffused
by drops passing through
creating a rainbow
God's promise to me and you.
One droplet of water
unimportant alone
sometimes how way we feel
what can we do on our own?
Like, that single drop of water
necessary for the rainbow
you are important too
God wants you to know.

Just For Today . . .nature's way . . .3/5/09

Dear Holy Friends,
Spring is playing it's typical elusive game. Last Friday the temperature was in the 50's. Monday we had lots of snow and zero temperatures. This weekend we should hit 60. Ah, the fickleness of spring! I think I will focus on some nature poetry for a while. Some you will recognize from past postings and some will be new.

In His Grip, Chandra

From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised.  Psalm 113:3

NATURE'S WAY

I wonder if the sun complains
about when it will rise and set?
Does the ocean need reminders
of boundaries or does it forget?
Has a rain cloud ever failed
    to rain upon the land?
Or a flower refused to open
    at the Master's command?
Do birds and bees and mammals
    rebel like me and you?
or do they migrate and hibernate
    because He told them to?
Maybe we could learn a lot
    from obedience nature's way.
Instead of rebelling at His plan
entrust the Master with our day.
